Back on the Rock

For the first time in two years, I was back in Hawaii. Man, it felt good.Although I’ve spent nearly all my life in Hawaii, I didn’t quite remember how it felt to be “home” until I set foot outside the terminal gate and into the Hawaiian air. It was warm, but not hot. The air felt good against my skin, but it didn’t give me goosebumps. The air felt, well, like paradise.
It had been the longest continuous stretch I had been away from Hawaii. Even as I lived in California, a year and a half would be the most I would go without a trip home. I was a bit farther this time, which probably had a lot to do with it.
I vowed to not take living in Hawaii for granted again and slotted some time on Friday afternoon to run at Ala Moana Beach Park. Ocean, Diamond Head, beach, sunset. I hate running, but the scenery definitely made it more palatable.
