If you said I would be able to take our dog to a huge gathering of dogs in a public area and not create a scene, I would have said “did we get a new dog?”. Doggie Dog wasn’t a model canine in public areas. His known history starts off with him being kicked out of a rescue group because he was “dog aggressive” at the mobile adoptions. After we adopted him, Paul took him to two outings — one to the Hopalong Rescue Group office and one to Petfood Express — at both of which he peed on things, indoors. After that, Doggie was banned from going on field trips to public places.
Doggie turned nine this year. I can’t believe that he’s been with us for eight years now. He has grown up, matured and most importantly, mellowed out. So finally, he’s ready to go out in public again. And what better way then with a few hundred other dogs at Magic Island Ala Moana Beach Park?
The annual Hawaiian Humane Society Petwalk was held on Sunday, October 4, 2009. It was a gorgeous day, but dang it was hot. I know, what do you expect being at the beach, right? Well, by 8am everyone was sweating in the shade. Lots of dogs, but there was plenty of room to roam. The walk itself was like, well, walking the dog. My favorite activity was the agility course, and I loved the fact that we could bring Doggie to Ala Moana Beach Park. Doggie looked like he had a blast. And I am so ecstatic that we can bring Doggie to public places now.
