Neighborhood Pyrotechnics

Friends Jan 01, 2010

I love New Years in Hawaii. Kids, matches, men, beer and explosives. Where else in the U.S. can you have your very own backyard fireworks shows?

Last year we scorched our grass.  Luckily it grew back.  If you haven’t had the pleasure of being in Hawaii for New Years, you should try it.  There’s no need for fancy parties, live music, champagne, and party dresses.  A big cooler of beer, BBQ, and a whole lot of explosives is all you need.  The party starts at 7pm and the smoke doesn’t clear until 2am.

Luckily, there were no mishaps this year except for one rocket that was stuck in the tube.  No one was hurt, but I stood behind cover for the rest of the night.  Nothing caught on fire that wasn’t suppose to, but I haven’t been outside yet to assess any damage from last night.
