Watanabe Bakery on Beretania

My favorite bakery (until Cherilyn opens her own!) is Watanabe Bakery on Beretania Street. Loaves of bread baked daily (and in true bakery fashion, fresh baked bread is ready in the morning). The white bread melts in your mouth. I grew up on white bread, but switched to wheat or multigrain for health reasons. Then I ran into Watanabe white bread and I’ve fallen off the wagon. Watanabe sells their bread in Don Quiote (formerly known as Holiday Mart, Daiea), but nothing beats getting it fresh from their store.
They are a Japanese bakery so in addition to standard glazed donuts and danishes, you can get an pan (pastries filled with red bean paste) and other “lighter” bakery fare. However, the cutest things are their animal pastries. But beware, as mentioned, this is a Japanese bakery. That brown filling in the turtle isn’t chocolate; it’s red bean :).
Second favorite of mine: their egg and potato salad sandwich on white. Best I’ve had. All their sandwiches are light and extremely fresh. However, if you have a big appetite, you’ll need to pickup multiple sandwiches.
Staff is always extremely friendly. Parking is easy unless you come at lunch time. They are located on Beretania Street about 4 doors down from Owen’s Photography. Parking is located in a small lot right when you pass the 4 shops.
