1940’s Mersman Coffee Table
From Pixels to Pencils May 04, 2014
How does one furnish a basement on no budget? Craigslist plus handy-wonderful-husband equals an awesome “new” coffee table.
Despite my love (love..) for modern design, I knew there was no way that I could modernize my basement space without replacing all the existing furniture. I’ll post up the new pictures of my basement in a week or two, but for now, I just wanted to show off the husband’s handiwork.
I wish that I took before photos, but I was so utterly embarrassed at paying $60 for this coffee table from Craigslist. It was literally franken-table. The water-stained top wasn’t a big deal, but when I turned it over, the pedestal was connected to a particle block with about eight wood screws protruding at various lengths from it. The dowels that connected the legs were broken, so various nails and screws were used to keep them together. If it weren’t for the fact that I drove 35 minutes into unknown parts of Maryland, and had already mentally committed to this table, I would’ve laughed and walked away. Instead, I was $60 lighter and trying to figure out a way to make this refurbishing project sound “fun” for my husband.
A few weekends and trips to the local woodworking store later, viola. Awesome table.
